La Galla Tasca Vegana

6 / 5 Address: Carrer De Piquer 15, Barcelona

A fantastic dish. But a bad Bravas. Reinvention gone wrong?

As you can tell from the picture this doesn't look like a classic Patatas Bravas. And it wasn't. In fact. As a Bravas it was sub-par - but as a potato dish it was fantastic. Let's dig into it. This cute vegan place lies just opposite of the meat only restaurant La Porca. And without having tried La Porca yet, I can safely say that La Galla Tasca Vegana surely is the better restaurant of the two. But this review is about the Bravas. When they were served to us I was a bit surprised. I mean, all other Bravas I've had have been diced potatoes, fried with a salsa-ish sauce. This was skin on potatoes with a sauce. But hey. I like to try new things and I love when people try to put their own touch to a rather simple, yet hard to perfect, dish. At first I tried the red Bravas sauce, and wow. This was fantastic. A hint of wine. Great spice-level. Just wow. My interest peaked and I took a piece of the potato with some of the mayo. Wasabi. No... This is where they lost me with this creation. Close but not close enough. Was it bad? No, absolutely not. As a potato dish on its own, 8/10. As a Bravas 6/10. Restaurant is surely worth a visit if you are here for a long time. But don't visit just for the Bravas. There are better places.
